A Year in J. Luxe Videos

We've said it once or twice before but we'll say it again. Being friends with creative people has got to be one of life's greatest gifts.

Over the course of our year-and-a-half or so in business, our dear and talented friend, Mark Martinez has created some promotional videos of our store and merchandise. We've never asked him to do it, he's just asked and it has been the absolute greatest.

Here, a year in J. Luxe videos. Enjoy xx

Ear Piercings Revisited

Sometimes my mind goes off on these bizarre tangents. OK, but whose doesn't. I just start obsessing over something that's not really too new like Sia's "Breathe Me" or tattoos and ear piercings. What's so exciting about something people have been doing for ages?

One, I have this ongoing obsession with tattoo sleeves, especially on women. I think it's free and great and I especially love it when they're wearing pretty clothing. I like the idea of having a tattoo although I don't know if I'll ever get one. But I'll put that thought in my pocket for now.

Two, I'm revisiting earlobe piercings. Personally, I'm not too into flat or daith piercings, but if I was, I think my friend Molly got it right (pictured below). She recently visited TX from NYC and I was obsessed with her piercings AND earrings by J Colby Smith.
Molly's fancy.

I have a double piercing now and want to add a third. Here, my favorite results from Instagram-stalking J Colby Smith, NY Adorned and Molly.

Strong is Beautiful

We are strong and strong is beautiful.

The first time I ever went to market for J. Luxe I remember mostly everyone as stylish. I also remember one too many with a cigarette in one hand and a huge frozen Starbucks concoction with mounds of whip cream in the other. I noticed, in fashion, being healthy is not always a priority but being thin is.

Perhaps it's just me coming to terms with the fact that I'll never be Coco Rocha-thin or maybe I was just distracted by my love for CrossFit, but being strong and healthy without cutting corners has never been more important. When I talk to naysayers about CrossFit, I get one of either two responses: 1) It's too tough and/or 2) I don't want to look big and 'manly.'

We recently got together with our beautiful and talented photographer friend, Janelle (Shutterbug Photography), hair and makeup artist Jessica Avila Saenz, and the coaches at the Human Lab for a photo shoot featuring some of our fall favorites. We coordinated the shoot to visually express that strong is beautiful. And in our opinion, there's nothing manly about these CrossFitters.

A Serpent Moment

Just finished my usual browsing ritual and found the theme of the day, snakes. I can't say I'm a fan of reptiles but there is something so sultry about an accessory with snakes. What do you all think?

Here are a couple of my favorite snake accessories from J. Luxe

Snake Wrap ring, House of Harlow

Serpent Cuff, Odette

The Essential Accessory

What's your favorite thing about a scarf? The comfort and coziness. Or the feeling of I-effortlessly-accessorized? We'd like to think it's a combo. Buy yourself one or buy one as a gift. Nobody doesn't love a good scarf.

New styles have been added to our online shop. Best news--they're all under $25.

Fall Spirit

I usually spend my Sundays doing a whole lot of nothing. This Sunday was pretty productive for a change. I woke up early and caught a hatha yoga class at Mind Body Studio and afterwards indulged in a delicious Mexican feast my mom made. My mom and aunt planned on decorating pumpkins and so we did. I'll admit I only helped here and there...the two of them were the true artists that day. Here are some photos of the gorgeousness.

What's your favorite fall ritual?

The only pumpkin I decorated. I like to call it Gay Slice.
